1. A hospital layout comprising:
- (a) a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms configured and equipped to perform surgery and other procedures;
(b) a plurality of intubation rooms directly connected to adjacent OR/intervention rooms, said direct connection of the intubation rooms to the OR/intervention rooms enabling passage directly between in the intubation rooms and OR/intervention room without having to pass through another area of the hospital, said intubation rooms configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention room, said preparation occurring while the OR/intervention room is being prepared;
(c) at least one extubation room directly connected to adjacent OR/intervention rooms, said direct connection of the extubation rooms to the OR/intervention rooms, enabling passage between the extubation room and OR/intervention rooms without having to pass through another area of the hospital, said at least one extubation room configured and equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients; and
(d) a plurality of universal patient rooms approximate the OR/intervention rooms and physically separate from the intubation rooms and the extubation rooms, said universal patient rooms specifically physically configured and specifically and permanently equipped with equipment used to perform all of the functions of admitting patients for surgery intervention, preparing patients for surgery intervention, allowing patients to recover post-intervention, and discharging patients post-recovery.

(a) a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms configured and equipped to perform surgery and other procedures; (b) at least one intubation room adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one intubation room configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention room, said preparation occurring while the OR/intervention room is being prepared; (c) at least one extubation room adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one extubation room configured and equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients; (d) a plurality of universal patient rooms approximate the OR/intervention rooms and physically separate from the intubation rooms and the extubation rooms, said universal patient rooms configured and equipped to admit patients for surgery intervention, prepare patients for surgery intervention, allow patients to recover post-intervention, and discharge patients post-recovery; and (e) wherein the OR/intervention rooms comprise a lighting system comprising; an array of light sources recessed into the ceiling of the OR/intervention room during use of the lighting system to at most minimally project below the ceiling of the OR/intervention room; movable mounting systems for the light sources positioned above the ceiling of the OR/intervention room to support the light sources in recessed, elevational position relative to the position of the ceiling; and powered actuating systems for automatically moving the mounting systems to aim, focus, and vary the intensity of the lights as remotely controlled by OR/intervention room personnel.

(a) a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms configured and equipped to perform surgery and other procedures; (b) a plurality of intubation rooms adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said intubation rooms configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention room, said preparation occurring while the OR/intervention room is being prepared; (c) at least one extubation room adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one extubation room configured and equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients; (d) a plurality of universal patient rooms approximate the OR/intervention rooms and physically separate from the intubation rooms and the extubation rooms, said universal patient rooms configured and equipped to admit patients for surgery intervention, prepare patients for surgery intervention, allow patients to recover post-intervention, and discharge patients post-recovery; and (e) wherein the OR/intervention rooms comprise a lighting system comprising; multiple light sources recessed into the ceiling of the OR/intervention room during use of the lighting system; movable mounting systems for the light sources positioned above the ceiling of the OR/intervention room; and powered actuating systems for automatically moving the mounting systems to aim the lights as controlled by OR/intervention room personnel; and (f) wherein the powered activating system for the light mounting system is activated by; controls or radio frequency identification tags mountable on gloves, arm bands, wrist bands, and other substrates worn by the OR/intervention room personnel, or equipment used by personnel;

(a) a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms configured and equipped to perform surgery and other procedures; (b) a plurality of intubation rooms adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said intubation rooms configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention room, said preparation occurring while the OR/intervention room is being prepared; (c) at least one extubation room adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one extubation room configured and equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients; (d) a plurality of universal patient rooms approximate the OR/intervention rooms and physically separate from the intubation rooms and the extubation rooms, said universal patient rooms configured and equipped to admit patients for surgery intervention, prepare patients for surgery intervention, allow patients to recover post-intervention, and discharge patients post-recovery; (e) wherein the OR/intervention rooms comprise a lighting system comprising; multiple light sources recessed into the ceiling of the OR/intervention room during use of the lighting system; movable mounting systems for the light sources positioned above the ceiling of the OR/intervention room; and powered actuating systems for moving the mounting systems to aim the lights as desired by OR/intervention room personnel; and (f) wherein the OR/intervention rooms comprise a ventilation system comprising a plurality of laminar flow air inlets in the ceiling of the OR/intervention room and a plurality of air exhaust systems adjacent the floor of the OR/intervention room, and wherein ventilation air is free to travel in laminar flow condition from the air inlets to the air exhaust system without impinging on the light sources or the movable mounting systems. - View Dependent Claims (9)

(a) a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms configured and equipped to perform surgery and other procedures; (b) a plurality of intubation rooms adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said intubation rooms configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention room, said preparation occurring while the OR/intervention room is being prepared; (c) at least one extubation room adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one extubation room configured and equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients; (d) a plurality of universal patient rooms approximate the OR/intervention rooms and physically separate from the intubation rooms and the extubation rooms, said universal patient rooms configured and equipped to admit patients for surgery intervention, prepare patients for surgery intervention, allow patients to recover post-intervention, and discharge patients post-recovery; (e) further comprising multiple light sources recessed into the ceiling of the OR/intervention room during use of the light sources; (f) wherein the OR/intervention rooms comprise a ventilation system comprising a plurality of laminar flow air inlets in the ceiling of the OR/intervention room for introducing ventilating air into the OR/intervention rooms and a plurality of air exhaust systems adjacent the floor of the OR/intervention room for removing ventilating air from the OR/intervention room; and (g) wherein the ventilating air is free to flow from the air inlets in the ceiling of the OR/intervention room to the air exhaust systems adjacent the floor of the OR/intervention room without impinging on the light sources.

mountings for monitors and displays;
overhead utility sources and outlets, equipment supports and mountings;
equipment and supply cabinet mountings; and
equipment, instrument, and supply table mountings.

(a) a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms configured and equipped to perform surgery and other procedures; (b) a plurality of intubation rooms adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said intubation rooms configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention room, said preparation occurring while the OR/intervention room is being prepared; (c) at least one extubation room approximate the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one extubation room configured and equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients; (d) a plurality of universal patient rooms approximate the OR/intervention rooms, said universal patient rooms configured and equipped to admit patients for surgery intervention, prepare patients for surgery intervention, allow patients to recover post-intervention, and discharge patients post-recovery; (e) wherein a surgery/intervention zone of a predetermined area is established in the OR/intervention room generally surrounding the location at which a patient is positioned, the intervention zone being substantially free of monitors;
displays;
mountings for monitors and displays;
overhead utility sources and outlets, equipment supports and mountings;
equipment and supply cabinet mountings; and

(a) a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms configured and equipped to perform surgery and other procedures; (b) a plurality of intubation rooms adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said intubation rooms configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention room, said preparation occurring while the OR/intervention room is being prepared; (c) at least one extubation room adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one extubation room configured and equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients; (d) a plurality of universal patient rooms approximate the OR/intervention rooms, said universal patient rooms configured and equipped to admit patients for surgery intervention, prepare patients for surgery intervention, allow patients to recover post-intervention, and discharge patients post-recovery; and (e) a plurality of cleaning robots housed in the OR/intervention room, said cleaning robots comprising cleaning heads, a vacuum system, a cleaning solution reservoir, a cleaning solution dispensing system, and a control system to activate and control the operation of the cleaning robots to dispense cleaning solution onto the OR/intervention room floor, operate the cleaning heads and operate the vacuum system to clean the OR/intervention room floor.

(a) a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms configured and equipped to perform surgery and other procedures; (b) a plurality of intubation rooms adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said intubation rooms configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention room, said preparation occurring while the OR/intervention room is being prepared; (c) at least one extubation room adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one extubation room configured and equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients; (d) a plurality of universal patient rooms approximate the OR/intervention rooms and physically separate from the intubation rooms and the extubation rooms, said universal patient rooms configured and equipped to admit patients for surgery intervention, prepare patients for surgery intervention, allow patients to recover post-intervention, and discharge patients post-recovery; (e) a surgical table comprising a platform for supporting a patient; (f) a pedestal extending downwardly from the platform and a mobile floor engaging base supporting the lower end of the pedestal; (g) a connection system for connecting and disconnecting the mobile base to utility outlets, gas outlets, and data lines and cable connectors in the floor of the OR/intervention room; (h) arm members at the head and/or foot of the platform, said arm members supporting outlets for utilities, gas, and data lines and cables from the connections located in the floor of the OR/intervention room; and (i) wherein the mobile floor engaging base permitting the surgical table to be moved throughout the OR/intervention room as well as moved into and freely about the intubation and extubation rooms. - View Dependent Claims (27, 28)

(a) a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms configured and equipped to perform surgery and other procedures, said OR/intervention rooms each having a ceiling and a floor, said OR/intervention rooms adapted to house equipment and lighting and other fixtures used to perform surgery and other procedures; (b) at least one intubation room positioned adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one intubation room configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention room, said preparation occurring while the OR/intervention room is being prepared; (c) at least one extubation room positioned adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one extubation room specifically physically configured and specifically and permanently equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients, said positioning of the at least one extubation room enabling passage directly between the OR/intervention room and the at least one extubation room; (d) a plurality of universal patient rooms approximate the OR/intervention rooms, said universal patient rooms configured and equipped to admit patients for surgery intervention, prepare patients for surgery intervention, allow patients to recover post-intervention, and discharge patients post-recovery; and (e) wherein the OR/intervention rooms comprise a ventilation system comprising a plurality of laminar flow air inlets in the ceiling of the OR/intervention rooms and a plurality of air exhaust systems adjacent the floor of the OR/intervention rooms, and wherein ventilation air is free to travel downwardly through the OR/intervention room in laminar flow condition from the air inlets to the air exhaust system without impinging on the equipment and lighting and other fixtures.

(a) a plurality of adjacent OR/intervention rooms configured and equipped to perform surgery and other procedures, said OR/intervention rooms each having a ceiling and a floor, and adapted to house equipment and fixtures; (b) at least one intubation room located adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one intubation room configured and equipped to prepare patients for procedures to occur in the OR/intervention room, said preparation occurring while the OR/intervention room is being prepared; (c) at least one extubation room positioned adjacent the OR/intervention rooms, said at least one extubation room specifically physically configured and equipped to post-intervention awaken and extubate patients, said location of the at least one extubation room enabling passage directly between the OR/intervention room and the at least one intubation room; (d) a plurality of universal patient rooms approximate the OR/intervention rooms, said universal patient rooms specifically physically configured and specifically and permanently equipped to admit patients for surgery intervention, prepare patients for surgery intervention, allow patients to recover post-intervention, and discharge patients post-recovery; (e) wherein a surgery/intervention zone of a predetermined area is established in the OR/intervention rooms generally surrounding the location at which a patient is positioned, the intervention zone from the ceiling to the floor of the intervention zone being substantially free of light fixtures;
