1. An image pickup apparatus, comprising:
- an image pickup element which generates image data;
a display portion capable of displaying an image based on the image data;
a plurality of first elements provided along a first side of the display portion, which is a vertical side of the display portion;
a plurality of second elements provided along a second side, which is different from the first side, of the display portion;
a display controller which displays, on the display portion, a setting item at a position that corresponds to a first one of the first elements;
a setting changer which, in response to an operation of one of the first elements, controls the display controller to display, on the display, a plurality of candidates for receiving an instruction for changing a setting according to a setting item which is displayed at a position that corresponds to the operated first element; and
a selector which receives selection of the candidates,wherein the setting changer terminates display of the candidates in response to an operation of one of the second elements when the candidates are displayed.

Abstract
An LCD (21) for displaying a plurality of set information items is provided for a digital camera (10). When a plurality of input keys disposed around the LCD (21) are depressed, set information which is displayed adjacent to the input key can be changed. A control portion of the digital camera (10) performs a variety of control operations of the digital camera (10) in accordance with set information. Therefore, the position of the input portion which is used when the setting of the digital camera (10) can easily be understood. Thus, the setting can be changed by performing only a simple operation.

1. An image pickup apparatus, comprising:

an image pickup element which generates image data; a display portion capable of displaying an image based on the image data; a plurality of first elements provided along a first side of the display portion, which is a vertical side of the display portion; a plurality of second elements provided along a second side, which is different from the first side, of the display portion; a display controller which displays, on the display portion, a setting item at a position that corresponds to a first one of the first elements; a setting changer which, in response to an operation of one of the first elements, controls the display controller to display, on the display, a plurality of candidates for receiving an instruction for changing a setting according to a setting item which is displayed at a position that corresponds to the operated first element; and a selector which receives selection of the candidates, wherein the setting changer terminates display of the candidates in response to an operation of one of the second elements when the candidates are displayed. - View Dependent Claims (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8)
