1. A multi-homed web server comprising:
- a web server physical machine;
web server software operable on said web server physical machine, the web server software configured to provide a plurality of virtual hosts on said web server physical machine;
a defaults file, said defaults file being compiled and linked to said web server software;
said defaults file comprising a database for storing information at least regarding the file extension of a received request, type of information to returned responsive to said received request, and the identity of a module having predetermined functionality to process said received request; and
wherein new functionality may be added to said web server software by editing said defaults file, re-compiling the edited defaults file, and re-linking the compiled edited defaults file to said web server software.

Abstract
A multi-homed web server is disclosed including a plurality of virtual hosts operable in a web server. A master configuration file associated with each of said plurality of virtual hosts is provided. A plurality of modules are available for processing particular types of incoming connection requests. Associations are maintained in the master configuration file for determining which of the plurality of modules is appropriate for a particular incoming connection request.
