1. A method, comprising:
- detecting, using a processor, a predefined parameter associated with an operational condition of a medical device;
determining an availability of at least one communication channel from a plurality of communication channels;
transmitting, from the medical device, a request for time information over the available communication channel in response to the predefined parameter detection;
receiving, at the medical device, the time information in response to the transmitted request;
updating the medical device based on the received time information;
measuring, with the processor, a predetermined resistance value associated with the medical device;
matching, with the processor, the measured predetermined resistance value to a corresponding stored resistance value, the stored resistance value associated with a predetermined expiration date;
determining, with the processor, the predetermined expiration date of the medical device; and
generating, with the processor, an output signal based on the determination of the predetermined expiration date.
