1. A stent for delivery of a drug in a body lumen, comprising:

  • a plurality of interconnected struts forming a hollow structure having an interior passageway, the hollow structure including an inner surface facing the interior passageway and an outer surface opposite the inner surface and facing away from the interior passageway; and

    a plurality of drug-loaded filament strands attached to the outer surface, each drug-loaded filament strand having a rectangular cross section with a first side, a second side, a third side, and a fourth side, wherein a barrier coating layer is disposed on the first, second and third sides and not disposed on the fourth side to enable drug elution along the fourth side.
