1. A method for configuring a repeater using a wireless station, the method comprising:
- wirelessly broadcasting discovery packets to the repeater in range of the wireless station;
controlling the wireless station to operate at a first, reduced power while broadcasting the discovery packets to the repeater;
detecting the repeater including processing a repeater response to the discovery packets sent by the repeater at the first, reduced power, the repeater response including configuration and state information associated with the repeater;
displaying, at the wireless station, a user interface to a user to allow for the configuration of the repeater including displaying the configuration and state information;
operating the wireless station and the repeater at the first, reduced power while the configuration of the repeater is performed; and
operating the wireless station and the repeater at a second, unreduced power after configuration of the repeater is performed,wherein the first, reduced power helps prevent snooping by other devices during discovery and configuration of the repeater.

a detector for detecting a presence of a proximately located wireless station; a receiver for receiving discovery packets from an in range wireless station, the discovery packets broadcast by the wireless station at a first, reduced power; a configuration engine for processing the discovery packets transmitted wirelessly by the wireless station, the processing including determining if one of the discovery packets includes a command to configure the repeater, and processing the command to produce configuration information related to an execution of the command; a transmitter for transmitting wirelessly the configuration information in a response back to the wireless station; and a power selector for controlling the transmitter to operate at the first, reduced power while the configuration information are transmitted to the wireless station, and while configuration of the repeater is performed in response to the execution of the command, and for controlling the transmitter to operate at a second, unreduced power after configuration of the repeater, wherein the first, reduced power helps prevent snooping during the configuration. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24)

25. A method for managing a repeater in a wireless local area network, the method comprising:

locating an in range wireless station; receiving over a wireless link a discovery packet from the wireless station, the discovery packet broadcast by the wireless station at a first, reduced power; processing the discovery packet including parsing the discovery packet to locate a command for configuring the repeater; generating configuration information associated with the repeater, the configuration information including execution information relating to an execution of the command; wirelessly transmitting the configuration information to the wireless station; and enabling the configuration information to be transmitted and configuration of the repeater to be performed at the first, reduced power in response to the execution of the command and at a second, unreduced power after configuration of the repeater, wherein the first reduced power helps prevent snooping by other devices during configuration. - View Dependent Claims (26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35)
