1. A method for collecting and analyzing frequency response data from a synchronous generator comprising:
- perturbing a signal applied to a signal input of an exciter system of the synchronous generator;
collecting signal response data generated by the synchronous generator in response to the perturbed signal, where the signal response data is collected from a plurality of signal points in the exciter system;
deriving a transfer function using the signal response data wherein the transfer function generates a predicted signal response at a signal output point for the synchronous generator system and the signal output point is different from the signal output points from which the data is collected;
applying an input signal to the transfer function to generate the predicted signal output corresponding to the signal output point, andapplying the predicted signal output to model an operation of the synchronous generator.

Abstract
A system for collecting frequency response data from a generator system including: applying a perturbing signal to a signal input of an exciter system for a synchronous generator; collecting data regarding signal output from a multiplicity of signal points in the exciter system; transforming the collected data to predict a signal response at a signal output in the system different from the signal points used for collecting data, and analyzing the frequency response of the system.
