1. A method of acquiring seismic data, comprising:
- using a portable tool to record at least one source parameter relating to a source configured to generate a seismic energy signal;
transmitting the at least one source parameter to a central station computer;
receiving at a data acquisition unit, after the data acquisition unit has been positioned, the at least one source parameter;
receiving at the data acquisition unit a seismic signal detected by at least one sensor in response to a seismic energy signal generated by the source at a selected source location, the data acquisition unit being in data communication with the at least one sensor;
generating a data block at the data acquisition unit having data representative of the received seismic signal and a header that contains data representative of the at least one source parameter; and
storing the generated data block on a storage medium.

Abstract
A method, apparatus and system for acquiring seismic data is disclosed that in one aspect receives a seismic signal detected by at least one sensor in response to a seismic energy signal generated by a source at a selected location at a data acquisition unit in data that is in data communication with the sensor, receives at least one parameter of the source and/or receiver at the data acquisition unit; and generates a data block at the data acquisition unit having data representative of the received seismic signal and a header that contains data representative of the at least one parameter of the source and/or receiver. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract which will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure.

7. A non-transitory computer-readable medium product having a program thereon that, when executed, cause at least one processor to execute a method, the method comprising:

recording at least one source parameter relating to a source configured to generate a seismic energy signal that was obtained by a portable tool; transmitting the at least one source parameter to a central station computer; receiving at the data acquisition unit, after the data acquisition unit has been positioned, at least one source parameter from a source configured to generate a seismic energy signal; receiving at a data acquisition unit a seismic signal detected by at least one sensor in response to a seismic energy signal generated by the source at a selected source location, the data acquisition unit being in data communication with the at least one sensor; generating a data block at the data acquisition unit having data representative of the received seismic signal and a header that contains data representative of the at least one source parameter; and storing the generated data block on a storage medium. - View Dependent Claims (8)
