- a vascular access device for communicating with the vascular system of a patient, wherein the vascular access device comprises;
a body with a lumen;
a status indicator comprising a moveable member movable from a first position to a second position, wherein movement of the moveable member from the first position to the second position provides an indication of elapsed time from when the vascular access device was placed in use in an intravenous access system;
a septum coupled to the vascular access device; and
a second status indicator disposed on the septum and being selected from a group consisting of a thermochromic material, a pH sensor, an alcohol sensor, and a colored substrate.

a vascular access device for communicating with the vascular system of a patient, wherein the vascular access device comprises; a body with a lumen, the body having an opening; and a status indicator comprising a moveable member movable from a first position to a second position to provide an indication of elapsed time from when the vascular access device was placed in use in an intravenous access system, the moveable member being viewable through an opening in the body, a spring being in mechanical communication with the moveable member for urging the moveable member from a first position to a second position, and a time sensitive adhesive attached to the moveable member that temporarily resists the force of the spring.
