1. A wireless mobile communications device, comprising:
- a radio transceiver;
a communication processor operatively coupled to the radio transceiver; and
a radio link optimizer that is operatively coupled to the radio transceiver and the communication processor,wherein the radio link optimizer acquires a measured parameter collection for at least one member of a radio chain collection that involves at least one measured parameter for at least a first layer of a communications protocol stack and a second layer of a communications protocol stack,wherein the radio link optimizer determines an optimum setting collection for at least a third layer to a top layer of the communications protocol stack based upon at least the measured parameter collection and a goal,wherein the radio link optimizer configures the third layer of the communications protocol stack to the top layer of the communications protocol stack based upon at least the determined optimum setting collection,wherein the radio chain collection comprises a receiver chain and a transmitter chain that are part of the radio link, andwherein the top layer of the communications protocol stack comprises at least a fourth layer of the communications protocol stack.

Abstract
Optimizing a radio link is done by acquiring at least OSI layer one and two performance measurements, determining an optimum setting collection for at least OSI layer three to a top layer, then configuring at least the OSI layer three to the top layer based upon the optimum setting collection. The top layer is at least OSI layer four. The invention includes optimized radio links, methods of making optimized radio links, revenue generating making optimized radio links by providing means for optimizing the radio link.
