Abstract

A computer-implemented method and system of disciplining data input to a multi-contextual and multi-dimensional database is described. A template identifying subject matter specific settings is provided, where the settings comprise a default ontology or taxonomy, a reserved word or phrase list, and restricted value ranges, and where the template includes a template identification and a version. A new record is generated based on the template. Alternatively, a record is generated by copying or inheriting information from an existing record in the database. A unique identification code is assigned to the record including a reference to the template identification and version. A weight is assigned to each record representing a level of diligence used at a time of data entry, where the level of diligence is dependent in part on the default ontology or taxonomy and the reserved word or phrase list.

Claims

1. A computer-implemented method of disciplining data input to a multi-contextual and multi-dimensional database, the method comprising:

providing a template identifying subject matter specific settings,

wherein the settings comprise a default ontology or taxonomy, and wherein the template includes a template identification and a version;

generating a new record based on the template and an existing record;

assigning a unique identification code to the new record including a reference to the template identification and version;

scoring the new record on a relative scale based on the quality of the information in the new record, wherein the quality of information depends in part upon the quality of the credentials with regard to a source entity, data generation device or software, or author associated with the new record; and

storing the new record in a database.

2. The method of claim 1, additionally comprising generating the new record by copying or inheriting information from the existing record in the database.

3. The method of claim 1, additionally comprising assigning a weight to each record representing a level of diligence used at a time of data entry, wherein the level of diligence is dependent in part on the default ontology or taxonomy and the reserved word or phrase list.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the settings additionally comprise a reserved word or phrase list, and restricted value ranges.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the template includes one or more fields for identification of an object or phenomenon, subject classification, physical measures, observables, economic variables, social, political, and environmental properties.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the field information includes a reference to source identity, location, file format and size.

7. The method of claim 5, wherein the subject classification includes higher, lower and equivalent classifications, and includes a reference to a source.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein each field of the template includes one or more attributes for international equivalents, source, author, date, time, location, template identification, value list, security level, encryption and version.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein a physical embodiment of an object or phenomenon is represented in the multi-contextual and multi-dimensional database by at least one of a self-contained data object, a web page, and a record in a relational database.

10. The method of claim 1, wherein the template is subject specific.

11. The method of claim 1, comprising additionally scoring the new record on a relative scale based on gathering system of the information.

24. The method of claim 1, wherein the quality of information depends in part upon the quality of the credentials with regard to the source entity, data generation device or software, and author associated with the new record.

25. The method of claim 1, wherein the quality of information depends in part upon the quality of the credentials with regard to the data generation device or software and author associated with the new record.

26. The method of claim 1, wherein the quality of information depends in part upon the quality of the credentials with regard to the data generation device or software.

27. The method of claim 1, wherein the quality of information depends in part upon the quality of the credentials with regard to the author associated with the new record.

12. A computer-implemented system for disciplining data input to a multi-contextual and multi-dimensional database, the system comprising:

means for providing a template from a storage, the template identifying subject matter specific settings, wherein the settings comprise a default ontology or taxonomy, and wherein the template includes a template identification and a version;

means for generating, via a processor, a new record based on the template and an existing record;

means for scoring, via the processor, the new record on a relative scale based on the quality of the information in the new record, wherein the quality of information depends in part upon the quality of the credentials with regard to a source entity, data generation device or software, or author associated with the new record; and

means for assigning, via the processor, a unique identification code to the new record including a reference to the template identification and version.

13. The system of claim 12, additionally comprising means for generating the new record by copying or inheriting information from the existing record in the database.

14. The system of claim 12, additionally comprising means for assigning a weight to each record representing a level of diligence used at a time of data entry, wherein the level of diligence is dependent in part on the default ontology or taxonomy and the reserved word or phrase list.

15. The system of claim 12, wherein the settings additionally comprise a reserved word or phrase list, and restricted value ranges.

16. The system of claim 12, wherein the template includes one or more fields for identification of an object or phenomenon, subject classification, physical measures, observables, economic variables, social, political, and environmental properties.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the field information includes a reference to source identity, location, file format and size.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the subject classification includes higher, lower and equivalent classifications, and includes a reference to a source.

19. The system of claim 12, wherein each field of the template includes one or more attributes for international equivalents, source, author, date, time, location, template identification, value list, security level, encryption and version.

20. The system of claim 12, wherein a physical embodiment of an object or phenomenon is represented in the multi-contextual and multi-dimensional database by at least one of a self-contained data object, a web page, and a record in a relational database.

21. The system of claim 12, wherein the template is subject specific.

22. The system of claim 12, comprising means for additionally scoring the new record on a relative scale based on a gathering system of the information.

23. A system for disciplining data input to a multi-contextual and multi-dimensional database, the system comprising:

a template identifying subject matter specific settings, wherein the settings comprise a default ontology or taxonomy, and wherein the template includes a template identification and a version;

a memory storing the template; and

a processor connected to the memory and configured to;

generate a new record based on the template and an existing record, score the record on a relative scale based on the quality of the information in the record, wherein the quality of information depends in part upon the quality of the credentials with regard to a source entity, data generation device or software, or author associated with the new record, and assign a unique identification code to the new record including a reference to the template identification and version.
