Abstract

Included are embodiments for determining sort order. At least one embodiment of a method includes determining a plurality of search results associated with at least one search criteria. Some embodiments of a method include determining a first distance between at least one of the search results and a home page associated with the at least one search result and determining a display order for the plurality of search results.

Claims

1. A method for determining sort order, the method comprising:

determining, on a computing device, a plurality of search results associated with at least one search criteria;

determining, on the computing device, a first average distance between a first search result from among the plurality of search results and a first home page associated with the first search result, wherein the value of the first average distance is an average of at least one distance between the first search result and the first home page, wherein each at least one distance is a number of web pages between the first home page and the first search result;

determining, on the computing device, a second average distance between a second search result from among the plurality of search results and a second home page associated with the second search result, wherein the value of the second average distance is an average of at least one distance between the second search result and the second home page, wherein each at least one distance is a number of web pages between the second home page and the second search result;

determining, on the computing device, a display order for the plurality of search results at least in part by comparing the first average distance and the second average distance; and

displaying the plurality of search results in the display order on a user interface by;

displaying the first search result on the user interface,

displaying the first average distance on the user interface proximate to the first search result,

displaying the second search result on the user interface, and

displaying the second average distance on the user interface proximate to the second search result.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising determining, on the computing device, a first number of links to other web pages on the first search result and a second number of links to other web pages on the second search result,

wherein determining the display order further comprises determining the display order for the plurality of search results by comparing the first number of links to other web pages and the second number of links to other web pages.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the user interface comprises a search results page, and wherein the search results page is configured for providing the plurality of search results in the determined display order.

4. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing an option to view at least one of the plurality of search results.

5. The method of claim 4, further comprising:

detecting, on the computing device, a user selection; and

responsive to detecting the user selection,

providing a display that includes at least one of the plurality of search results; and

providing an option to view at least one of the first home page and the second home page.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising providing an option to view at least one of the first home page and the second home page.

7. The method of claim 6, further comprising:

detecting, on the computing device, a user selection; and

responsive to detecting the user selection,

providing the first home page; and

providing an option to view the at least one search result from the first home page.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein determining the display order further comprises determining the display order based on additional criteria.

9. A processor configured to:

determine a plurality of search results associated with at least one search criteria;

determine a first average distance between a first search result from among the plurality of search results and a first home page associated with the at first search result, wherein the value of the first average distance is an average of at least one distance between the first search result and the first home page, wherein at least one distance is a number of web pages between the first home page and the first search result;

determine a second average distance between a second search result from among the plurality of search results and a second home page associated with the second search result, wherein the value of the second average distance is an average of at least one distance between the second search result and the second home page, wherein each at least one distance is a number of web pages between the second home page and the second search result; and

determine a display order for the plurality of search results at least in part by comparing the first average distance and the second average distance; and

display the plurality of search results in the display order on a user interface by;

displaying the first search result on the user interface,

displaying the first average distance on the user interface proximate to the first search result,

displaying the second search result on the user interface, and

displaying the second average distance on the user interface proximate to the second search result.

10. The processor of claim 9, further configured to determine a first number of links to other web pages on the first search result and a second number of links to other web pages on the second search result, and determine the display order for the plurality of search results by comparing the first number of links to other web pages and the second number of links to other web pages.

11. The processor of claim 9, wherein the user interface comprises a search results page, the search results page configured to provide the plurality of search results in the determined display order.

12. The processor of claim 9, further configured to provide an option to view at least one of the plurality of search results.

13. The processor of claim 12, further configured to:

detect a user selection;

responsive to the detection of the user selection, provide a display of the plurality of search results; and

provide an option to view at least one of the first home page and the second home page.

14. The processor of claim 9, further configured to provide an option to view at least one of the first home page and the second home page.

15. The processor of claim 14, further configured to:

detect a user selection;

responsive to the detection of the user selection, provide at least the first home page; and

provide an option to view the first search result from the first home page associated with the first search result.

16. A computer readable storage medium for determining sort order, comprising:

results determining logic configured to determine a plurality of search results associated with at least one search criteria;

distance determining logic configured to determine a first average distance between a first search result from among the plurality of search results and a first home page associated with the first search result, wherein the value of the first average distance is an average of at least one distance between the first search result and the first home page, wherein each at least one distance is a number of web pages between the first home page and the first search result;

the distance determining logic further configured to determine a second average distance between a second search result from among the plurality of search results and a second home page associated with the second search result, wherein the value of the second average distance is an average of at least one distance between the second search result and the second home page, wherein each at least one distance is a number of web pages between the second home page and the second search result;

order determining logic configured to determine a display order for the plurality of search results at least in part by comparing the first average distance and the second average distance; and

results providing logic configured to provide the plurality of search results in the display order on a user interface by;

displaying the first search result on the user interface,

displaying the first average distance on the user interface proximate to the first search result,

displaying the second search result on the user interface, and

displaying the second average distance on the user interface proximate to the second search result.

17. The computer readable medium of claim 16, further comprising link determining logic configured to determine a first number of links to other web pages on the first search result and a second number of links to other web pages on the second search result,

wherein the order determining logic is further configured to determine the display order for the plurality of search results by comparing the first number of links to other web pages and the second number of links to other web pages.

18. The computer readable medium of claim 16, wherein the user interface comprises a search results page, the search results page configured for providing the plurality of search results in the determined display order.

19. The computer readable medium of claim 16, further comprising second results providing logic configured to provide an option to view at least one of the first search result and the second search result.

20. The computer readable medium of claim 19, further comprising:

display providing logic configured to provide a display of at least one search result,

user selection detection logic configured to detect a user selection; and

first home page providing logic configured to provide an option to view the first home page from the provided search result responsive to the detection of the user selection.

21. The computer readable medium of claim 16, further comprising second home page providing logic configured to provide an option to view at least one of the first home page and the second home page.

22. The computer readable medium of claim 16, wherein the order determining logic is further configured to determine the display order based on additional criteria.
