1. A display apparatus comprising:
- an array of pixels arranged in rows and columns includinga transparent substrate, anda plurality of MEMS-based light modulators; and
a control matrix disposed on the substrate including,a common electrical connection among a set of pixels for providing a common voltage to each of the pixels in the set of pixels, the set of pixels including pixels in at least two of the columns and in at least two of the rows,a data voltage interconnect corresponding to one of the columns, anda switch incorporated into one of the pixels for controlling actuation of a corresponding MEMS-based light modulator in response to a voltage applied by the data voltage interconnectwherein at least one pixel in the array of pixels includes a first actuator for driving the MEMS-based light modulator in to a first state and a second actuator for driving the MEMS-based light modulator into a second state.

15. A method of forming an image on a display, comprising:

selecting a first scan-line of the display, wherein the scan line includes a plurality of pixels; for at least a first pixel of the plurality of pixels in the selected scan line, selectively regulating a voltage across a first actuator via a first switch disposed on a transparent substrate, thereby enabling the first actuator to drive a corresponding MEMS-based light modulator into a first state; selecting a second scan line of the display including a second plurality of pixels; for at least a second pixel of the second plurality of pixels in the selected second scan line, selectively regulating a voltage across a second actuator via a second switch, thereby enabling the second actuator to drive a corresponding second MEMS-based light modulator into a second state; applying a global actuation voltage to a global actuation interconnect shared among at least two pixels in the first scan line and at least two pixels in the second scan line, thereby actuating the first and second enabled actuators; and directing light towards at least one of the MEMS-based light modulators to form an image. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24)

25. A display apparatus comprising:

an array of pixels arranged in rows and columns including a transparent substrate, and a plurality of MEMS-based light modulators; and a control matrix disposed on the substrate including, a common electrical connection among a set of pixels for providing a common voltage to each of the pixels in the set of pixels, the set of pixels including pixels in at least two of the columns and in at least two of the rows, wherein the common electrical connection comprises a common current drain for accepting charge stored in the pixels in the array of pixels, thereby allowing for actuation of the plurality of corresponding MEMS-based light modulators, a data voltage interconnect corresponding to one of the columns, and a switch incorporated into one of the pixels for controlling actuation of a corresponding MEMS-based light modulator in response to a voltage applied by the data voltage interconnect. - View Dependent Claims (26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38)
