1. A method of forming a local pleurodesis between parietal pleura and visceral pleura comprising the steps in any order of:
- implanting a mechanical component comprising a mesh patch between the parietal pleura and the visceral pleura such that the mesh patch is in contact with the parietal pleura and the visceral pleura in a localized region;
creating an acute adhesion between the mesh patch and the parietal pleura and the visceral pleura in the localized region with a chemical adhesive; and
creating a fusion between the parietal pleura and the visceral pleura in the localized region with the mesh patch.

5. A localized pleurodesis method comprising:

(a) receiving a mesh patch adapted to induce tissue ingrowth; (b) percutaneously inserting the mesh patch into a pleural cavity defined by a visceral membrane and a parietal membrane; (c) securing the mesh patch against the visceral membrane and the parietal membrane at a selected localized region; and (d) holding the mesh patch in apposition with both the parietal membrane and visceral membrane until the mesh patch induces a localized fusion between the parietal membrane and the visceral membrane at the selected localized region. - View Dependent Claims (6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14)

(a) receiving a mesh patch adapted to induce tissue ingrowth; (b) inserting the mesh patch through a chest wall into a pleural cavity defined by a visceral membrane and a parietal membrane; (c) securing the mesh patch to the visceral membrane at a selected location; (d) securing the mesh patch and the visceral membrane against the parietal membrane at the selected location; and (e) holding the mesh patch in apposition with both the parietal membrane and visceral membrane until a localized fusion forms between the parietal membrane and the visceral membrane at the selected location. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21)
