1. An analyte sensor, comprising:

  • a substrate having a proximal end portion having a width defined by a first side and a second side, and a distal end portion having a width defined by a third side and a fourth side, the width of the distal end portion being less than the width of the proximal end portion, the distal end portion being adjacent to the proximal end portion and extending therefrom;

    one or more electrodes formed on the substrate, the one or more electrodes including an analyte-response enzyme and a mediator, wherein at least one of the analyte-response enzyme and the mediator is chemically bound to a polymer disposed on the one or more electrodes; and

    at least two traces separated by a distance of about 25 microns to about 250 microns, wherein at least one trace has a width of about 25 microns to 250 microns;

    wherein the flexibility of the sensor is varied based on a composition or thickness of the sensor; and

    wherein the first side and the third side together form a continuous straight edge and the second side and the fourth side do not form a continuous straight edge.
