1. A method of treating irritable bowel syndrome using an electrical spinal cord stimulation system, comprising:
- implanting an electrical lead within the thoracic T5, T5/T6 or T6 epidural space of the spinal cord of a patient;
selecting a plurality of operating parameters for the electrical spinal cord stimulation system that are effective for treating irritable bowel syndrome;
programming the electrical spinal cord system according to the plurality of operating parameters; and
treating the patient'"'"'s irritable bowel syndrome by increasing gastric motility by activating the electrical spinal cord stimulation system to deliver electrical pulses to spinal nervous tissue within the thoracic T5, T5/T6 or T6 epidural space of the spinal cord of the patient wherein gastric function is normalized.
