Abstract

The present invention relates to an integrated sleep diagnosis and treatment device, and more particularly to an integrated apnea diagnosis and treatment device. The present invention additionally relates to method of sleep diagnosis and treatment.

Claims

1. A sleeping disorder treatment system comprising

a data acquisition system, the data acquisition system comprising a data acquisition device having inputs for receiving signals from sensors including a respiration belt sensor and a pulse oximeter sensor, the data acquisition system for creating a quantitative output of the level of severity of a subject'"'"'s sleeping disorder or symptoms based in part on the signals from the sensors;

and

a continuous positive airway pressure device (CPAP) for treating a subject'"'"'s sleeping disorder or symptoms, which can receive the output of the data acquisition system and produce a recommended positive pressure setting in response to the output of the data acquisition system, and which further requires human intervention prior to changing the positive pressure delivered to the subject.

2. The system in claim 1, wherein the human intervention is performed by a physician or other clinician.

3. The system in claim 1, wherein the human intervention is performed by the subject being treated.

4. The system in claim 1, wherein the output is transmitted wirelessly by radio frequency from the data acquisition system to a receiver on the CPAP.

5. The system in claim 4, wherein the data acquisition system further collects a subject'"'"'s brain wave signal.

6. The system in claim 4, wherein the physiological signal is an EKG signal.

7. A sleep apnea treatment system comprising

a data acquisition system comprising a data acquisition device having inputs for receiving signals from sensors including a respiration belt sensor and a pulse oximeter sensor, the data acquisition system for diagnosing and creating an output of a level of severity of a subject'"'"'s obstructive and central sleep apneas;

and

a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device for treating the subject'"'"'s sleep apnea, the CPAP device having an airflow sensor with a signal, wherein the CPAP device can be adjusted using both the output of the data acquisition system and the signal from the CPAP device'"'"'s airflow sensor.

8. The system in claim 7, wherein the CPAP device is adjusted in real time.

9. The system in claim 7, wherein the CPAP device is adjusted automatically using data or a signal from the data acquisition system.

10. The system in claim 7, wherein the output is transmitted wirelessly by radio frequency from the data acquisition system to a receiver on the CPAP.

11. The system in claim 10, wherein the data acquisition system further collects a subject'"'"'s brain wave signal.

12. The system in claim 10, wherein the physiological signal is an EKG signal.

13. The system in claim 7, wherein the data acquisition system further comprises a microcontroller for calibrating and controlling the wireless radio frequency signal being transmitted to the CPAP device to adjust a treatment of the subject.

14. A sleep apnea treatment system comprising

a data acquisition system and a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device with an airflow sensor having a signal and a transceiver,

the data acquisition system comprising a data acquisition device having inputs for receiving signals from sensors including a respiration belt sensor and a pulse oximeter sensor, the data acquisition device further comprising a transceiver for wirelessly receiving radio frequency signals from the CPAP device based on the signal of the airflow sensor and transmitting radio frequency signals based on the inputs from the respiration belt and pulse oximeter sensors and the airflow signal sensor back to the CPAP device, the data acquisition device for diagnosing and creating an output of a level of severity of a subject'"'"'s obstructive and central sleep apneas

wherein the CPAP device can be adjusted using the radio frequency signals transmitted to the CPAP'"'"'s transceiver from the data acquisition device.

15. The system in claim 14, wherein the CPAP device is adjusted in real time.

16. The system in claim 14, wherein the CPAP device is adjusted automatically using data or a signal from the data acquisition system.

17. The system in claim 14, wherein the data acquisition system further comprises a microcontroller for calibrating and controlling the wireless radio frequency signal being transmitted to the CPAP device to adjust a treatment of the subject.

18. The system in claim 14, wherein the CPAP device further comprises a nebulizer.

19. The system in claim 18, wherein the nebulizer is used to deliver medication.

20. The system in claim 14, wherein the CPAP device is adjusted by a remote control device.
