1. A method for creating a working space comprising:

  • providing a surgical device including a housing and a cannula extending therefrom;

    inserting the surgical device through an incision in a patient'"'"'s skin;

    inserting a tunneling rod guide into the cannula of the surgical device, the tunneling rod guide including;

    an obturator;

    a guide tube;

    and a guide collar including;

    an end collar disposed at a distal end of the guide collar and a first collar disposed on a proximal end of the guide collar, the guide collar transitionable between a first state defined by engagement of the proximal end of the guide collar with a first region of the first collar defining a first diameter and a second state defined by engagement of the proximal end of the guide collar with a second region of the first collar defining a second diameter different from the first diameter;

    moving the obturator and the guide tube relative to each other such that the guide collar expands and frictionally engages an inner surface of the cannula;

    advancing the obturator distally such that a blunt tip of the obturator separates layers of tissue;

    removing the tunneling rod guide;

    removing the surgical device from the incision.
