Knee joint prosthesis system and method for implantation
First Claim
1. A system for cooperating with an elongated intramedullary (IM) member during preparation of a bone for receiving a prosthesis, the system comprising:
- a frame;
an alignment assembly selectively coupled to the frame, the alignment assembly cooperating with the IM member to position the frame relative to the bone, the alignment assembly including an alignment member having a receiving portion and a bushing selectively received by the receiving portion of the alignment member, the bushing defining a longitudinal axis, an annular groove and a bore configured to accept the IM member therethrough, the alignment member further comprising an engaging portion, wherein the bushing is selectively received by the receiving portion of the alignment member and the engaging portion is movable from a disengaged position to an engaged position, wherein in the engaged position, the engaging portion nests in the annular groove and substantially inhibits movement of the bushing along the longitudinal axis while permitting rotation of the bushing around the longitudinal axis; and
a cutting block selectively coupled to the frame wherein the engaging portion comprises a knob coupled to a foot, wherein the knob is movable between the disengaged and engaged positions causing the foot to move from a position generally within the body of the alignment member to a position generally into the receiving portion of the alignment member.

Abstract
A system for cooperating with an elongated IM member during preparation of a bone for receiving a prosthesis can include a scaffold, skeleton or frame. An alignment assembly can be selectively coupled to the frame. The alignment assembly can cooperate with the IM member to position the frame relative to the bone. A cutting block can be selectively coupled to the frame. According to other features, a posterior stabilized (PS) box guide assembly can have a PS box guide attachment portion that selectively couples with the first attachment portion of the frame. A posterior foot can selectively couple with a second attachment portion on the frame. The posterior foot can be positioned to occupy space of a joint line in an installed position.

6. A system for cooperating with an intramedullary (IM) member during preparation of at least a first bone for receiving a prosthesis, the system comprising:
-
a frame having an attachment portion defining a slot and that includes a sliding portion and a locking portion formed thereon; an alignment member having a body that defines a receiving portion and an alignment member attachment portion, wherein the alignment member attachment portion selectively couples with the attachment portion of the frame in an installed position; a bushing selectively received by the receiving portion of the alignment member, the bushing defining a bore configured to accept the IM member therethrough; a block having a plurality of tool guides formed thereon configured to guide a blade of a bone saw, the block having a block attachment portion that selectively couples with the attachment portion of the frame in an installed position; and a posterior stabilized (PS) box guide assembly having a PS box guide attachment portion that selectively couples with the attachment portion of the frame in an installed position; wherein each of the alignment member, the block and the PS box guide all include a rail that is selectively and alternatively slidably coupled to the slot of the attachment portion of the frame during preparation of the bone; and wherein the rail of the alignment member attachment portion includes a first portion that extends along the body in a first direction and a second portion that extends along the body in a second direction, the second direction being distinct from the first direction; and wherein the second portion is movable between an assembly position and an installed position, wherein in the assembly position, the second portion is substantially flush with the body, and in the installed position, the second portion extends a distance outward from the body and securably nests in the locking portion of the slot, wherein in the installed position, slidable movement of the first portion of the rail along the sliding portion of the slot is substantially inhibited. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14)
