1. A utility vehicle comprising:
- an electric drive motor;
an electric auxiliary motor;
an auxiliary implement powered by the electric auxiliary motor and having a primary work function of trimming grass, hay or similar plant growth, wherein performance of the primary work function causes the auxiliary implement to generate an airflow;
a controller for managing the electric drive motor and the electric auxiliary motor, the controller having a thermal conducting base plate; and
a mowing deck having a first side to which the controller is mounted and a second side below which the auxiliary implement performs its primary work function, the mowing deck having a cutaway through which at least a portion of the thermal conducting base plate extends so as to come into contact with the airflow generated below the mowing deck by the auxiliary implement.

Abstract
Apparatus and methods for cooling controller assemblies for electric utility vehicles are disclosed. Auxiliary implements powered by electric motors onboard a utility vehicle create airflow that is captured and directed to provide increased ambient airflow across heat sinks used to dissipate heat from heat generating components. Airflow across heated surfaces is further created by vehicle movement and vacuum pressure. Fins and other heat dissipating architecture are employed. Features of the cooling systems enable increased controller assembly functionality and/or decreased controller assembly package size.

5. A utility vehicle comprising:
-
an electric auxiliary motor having an output shaft; a mowing deck, wherein the electric auxiliary motor is located on a first side of the mowing deck at a first location with the output shaft passing therethrough to a second side of the mowing deck opposite the first side; an auxiliary implement for trimming grass, hay or similar plant growth fastened to the output shaft to rotate therewith adjacent the second side; and a controller for managing the electric auxiliary motor and an electric drive motor, the controller disposed on the first side of the mowing deck at a second location separate from the first location and comprising a heat sink that extends through a cutaway in the mowing deck to the second side so as to come into contact with an airflow generated on the second side by the auxiliary implement. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9)
