1. A system for assessing a health of a borehole tool, the system comprising:

  • at least one sensor associated with the borehole tool configured to obtain observation data relating to a characteristic of a formation;

    a memory in operable communication with the at least one sensor, the memory including a database configured to store the observation data relating to the characteristic of the formation; and

    a processor in operable communication with the memory configured to receive the observation data relating to the characteristic of the formation, the processor including;

    a detector receptive to the observation data and configured to identify whether the borehole tool is operating in a normal mode or a degraded mode, the degraded mode being indicative of a fault in the borehole tool;

    a diagnoser responsive to the observation data configured to identify a type of fault from at least one symptom pattern; and

    a prognoser in operable communication with the at least one sensor, the detector and the diagnoser, the prognoser configured to calculate a remaining useful life (RUL) of the borehole tool based on a degradation path created from information from at least one of the at least one sensor, the detector and the diagnoser, wherein the prognoser includes a population prognoser configured to calculate the RUL based on a duration of use of the borehole tool, a cause prognoser configured to calculate the RUL based on causal data, and an effect prognoser configured to calculate the RUL based on effect data generated from the fault.
