1. A catheter connection system, comprising:
- a hub assembly including a cannula extending from a distal end thereof, and a collet defining an inner surface spaced apart from the cannula to permit passage of a catheter wall between the collet inner surface and the cannula, the collet including a proximal barb on an outer surface thereof; and
a collar including a compression ring positioned along a distal inner surface of the collar and contained within the collar, and an attachment barb positioned on a proximal inner surface of the collar, the collar secured to the collet following positioning of the catheter wall between the inner surface of the collet and the cannula through engagement of the collet barb and the collar barb, the collar freely rotatable over the collet following engagement.

Abstract
A catheter connection system and a method of connecting the catheter connection system to a catheter. The catheter connection system includes a hub assembly and a collar. The hub assembly includes a cannula extending from a distal end thereof, and a collet defining an inner surface spaced apart from the cannula to permit passage of a catheter wall between the body and the cannula. The collet includes a proximal barb on an outer surface and the collar includes an attachment barb on an inner surface, engagement of the respective barbs acting to provide a permanent connection between the collar on the collet, while permitting free rotation of the collar about the collet.

11. A method of connecting a catheter connection system to a catheter, comprising:
-
providing a hub assembly including a cannula extending from a distal end thereof, and a collet defining an inner surface spaced apart from the cannula and a proximal barb on an outer surface thereof; sliding a catheter over the cannula such that a wall of the catheter passes between the cannula and collet inner surface; moving a collar over the catheter and onto the collet, the collar including a compression ring positioned along a distal inner surface of the collar and contained within the collar, and an attachment barb positioned on a proximal inner surface of the collar; and engaging the collet barb and the collar barb through proximal movement of the collar barb over the collet barb, the collar permanently connected to the collet and the collar freely rotatable about the collet following the engaging. - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17)

18. A method of connecting a catheter connection system to a catheter, comprising:
-
providing a hub assembly including; first and second cannula members extending in parallel relation from a distal end of the hub assembly; first and second extension tubes in fluid communication, respectively with the first and second cannula members; a core member surrounding a proximal portion of the first and second cannula members and a distal portion of the first and second extension tubes; and a collet having an inner surface spaced apart from the cannula and a threaded outer surface including a proximal barb; sliding a multi-lumen catheter including a first and second lumen over the first and second cannula members such that a wall of the catheter passes between the cannula members and the collet inner surface; moving a collar over the catheter and onto the collet, the collar including a compression ring secured to a distal inner surface of the collar and a threaded inner surface with an attachment barb; twisting the collar onto the collet through interaction of the respective threaded surfaces; and engaging the collar attachment barb and the collet proximal barb through proximal movement of the collar attachment barb over the collet proximal barb, the collar permanently connected to the collet and freely rotatable over the collet following the engaging. - View Dependent Claims (19)
