Method of calibrating an analyte-measurement device, and associated methods, devices and systems

1. An in vivo analyte sensor calibration system, comprising:
- an in vivo analyte sensor, at least a portion of the sensor subcutaneously positioned to generate one or more signals;
a transmission element operatively coupled to the in vivo analyte sensor and configured to transmit one or more analyte-related signals of the in vivo analyte sensor;
a calibration sensor configured to be placed in contact with one or more blood samples from one or more off-finger calibration sites to provide one or more calibration measurements; and
a data processing element configured to physically couple with the calibration sensor to communicate with the transmission element, the data processing element further configured to determine a quality of the one or more calibration measurements and a quality of the one or more generated signals from the in vivo analyte sensor, to convert the one or more generated signals from the in vivo analyte sensor into a corresponding one or more analyte concentration values based on the one or more calibration measurements if the quality of the one or more calibration measurements and the quality of the one or more generated signals from the in vivo analyte sensor are suitable for calibration, to determine an unweighted sensitivity associated with each of the one or more calibration measurements, to determine an adjusted sensitivity weighting factor associated with each of the one or more calibration measurements by multiplying a raw weighting factor by the corresponding unweighted sensitivity for each of the one or more calibration measurements and then further multiplying by a summation of each of the unweighted sensitivities raised to a power of the sensitivity weighting factor, and to determine a weighted sensitivity for each of the one or more calibration measurements based on the adjusted sensitivity factor associated with each of the one or more calibration measurements.

Abstract
The invention relates to a method for calibrating an analyte-measurement device that is used to evaluate a concentration of analyte in bodily fluid at or from a measurement site in a body. The method involves measuring a concentration, or calibration concentration, of an analyte in blood from an “off-finger” calibration site, and calibrating the analyte-measurement device based on that calibration concentration. The invention also relates to a device, system, or kit for measuring a concentration of an analyte in a body, which employs a calibration device for adjusting analyte concentration measured in bodily fluid based on an analyte concentration measured in blood from an “off-finger” calibration site.
