1. An apparatus for use with an ostomy device located proximally to a stoma, the apparatus comprising:
- (a) a stomal insert having a cap and a plurality of fingers extending from the cap, the stomal insert configured to be inserted into the stoma; and
(b) a shield having a semi-spherical cushion portion attached to a disc portion, wherein the disc portion is attached to the ostomy device and the cushion portion can be biased against the cap, wherein each of the fingers configured to conduct flatus gas towards the stoma, and each of the fingers is a hollow tube and has a plurality of vents extending along the length of the finger.

Abstract
The present invention is directed to an apparatus for use with an ostomate device. The apparatus of the present invention may provide protection and sound attenuation (e.g. reduction or elimination) of a stomal aperture for an ostomate having undergone an ostomy procedure. The present invention enables an ostomate safety when undergoing physical activity and confidence in social environments.
