1. A method for reducing power output rate change variability comprising:
- receiving photovoltaic power output from a photovoltaic array;
measuring a rate of change of the photovoltaic power output; and
adjusting an auxiliary power source output so that when the auxiliary power source output is combined with the photovoltaic power output, the rate of change of the combined output, known as a plant power output rate of change, is limited within a predefined power output rate change band, wherein the predefined power output rate change band defines a maximum allowable positive and a maximum allowable negative limit for the plant power output rate of change, the maximum allowable positive and negative limits being less than a maximum rate of change of the photovoltaic power output.

Abstract
A method and system for reducing power output rate change variability. A photovoltaic power output is received from a photovoltaic array. The rate of change of the photovoltaic power output is measured. An auxiliary power source output is adjusted to limit a plant power output rate of change to within a power output rate change band when combined with the photovoltaic power.
