1. A method comprising:

  • receiving a call screening indication from a voice over Internet protocol endpoint in response to a call initiation request being received by the voice over Internet protocol endpoint and prior to a no-answer determination made by an initiating call server, the call screening indication to cause redirection of a call associated with the call initiation request from the voice over Internet protocol endpoint to a messaging server to enable call screening for the call associated with the call initiation request;

    sending, to the a voice over Internet protocol endpoint, a communication session initiation message comprising a session initiation protocol invite message indicating session redirection or forwarding is prohibited, the communication session initiation message to establish a call screening communication session to convey a user message to the voice over Internet protocol endpoint; and

    providing the user message to the voice over Internet protocol endpoint, the voice over Internet protocol endpoint to play the user message at least partially while a calling party is leaving the user message.
