Abstract
An automated banking machine is controlled responsive to data read from data bearing records. The automated banking machine includes a card reader, a keypad, a cash dispenser, a cash outlet, a deposit accepting opening, and other transaction locations that may be susceptible to the installation of fraud devices. An anti-fraud sensing system is operative in the machine to sense the probable installation of unauthorized devices on the machine. Such unauthorized devices may include for example, fraudulent card reading devices, fraudulent keypad input intercepting devices, cash outlet trap devices, and deposit input diversion devices.

11. A method comprising:
-
(a) operating at least one computer to cause at least one radiation output device of an automated banking machine to intermittently generate radiation, wherein the machine includes a user interface, at least one reader operable to read user data usable to identify a financial account, and at least one radiation sensing device operable to sense radiation generated by the at least one radiation output device, wherein the at least one radiation sensing device is operatively connected with the at least one computer, wherein the at least one radiation output device is adjacent the user interface; (b) operating the at least one computer to determine whether a level of radiation sensed by the at least one radiation sensing device exceeds a predetermined threshold, wherein the at least one computer is configured to cause responsive at least in part to a positive determination, at least one action associated with an abnormal condition of the machine to be taken; and (c) operating the at least one computer to either (ci) cause the at least one action to be taken, responsive at least in part to a positive determination in (b);
or(cii) cause the at least one action not to be taken, responsive at least in part to a negative determination in (b). - View Dependent Claims (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
