1. A method of data transmission, comprising:
- (a) receiving at least one stream of data;
(b) encoding at least one bit with at least one pulse position data symbol;
(c) serially transmitting the pulse position data symbols as ultra wideband impulses, comprising alternating counter pulses, over a hard-wired medium;
(d) receiving the ultra wideband impulses;
(e) recovering the pulse position data symbols from the ultra wideband impulses;
decoding the ultra wideband impulse peaks to thereby provide decoded data;
wherein the hard-wired medium is simultaneously used for wave based transmissions and transmission of the ultra wideband impulses; and
wherein the ultra wideband signals are transmitted in a manner which is time independent of the wave based transmissions.

Abstract
The present invention provides for a methods, system, and apparatus relating to data transmission. One method of the present invention includes representing data using at least one ultra wideband pulse, sending the at least one ultra wideband pulse over an electrically conductive guided media, and recovering the data from the at least one ultra wideband pulse. The present invention can be used in conjunction with telephony applications, cable TV applications, power line applications, fiber optic applications, and data bus applications.
