1. A method comprising:
- a portable base station, requesting dynamic assignment of a portion of a code space by sending a message to a remotely located control station, the message includes information about the portable base station and is absent information about other base stations, wherein the code space has previously been partially allocated to other base stations, and the assignment is based, at least in part, upon the location of the portable base station and allocation of the previously allocated code space portions to the other base stations remain unchanged; and
transmitting an identification signal from the portable base station, using the assigned code space portion as assigned by the remotely located control station, to uniquely identify the portable base station to one or more access terminals, wherein the remotely located control station is different from the one or more access terminals.
