1. A method comprising:
- (a) operating at least one processor that is in operative connection with at least one input device, at least one output device, a cash dispenser, and at least one communication device of an automated banking machine, wherein the at least one input device includes at least one card reader, wherein the at least one card reader is operative to read from a user card, card data usable to identify a financial account of a machine user, wherein the at least one output device includes a display and a receipt printer operative to provide printed receipts corresponding to transactions conducted through operation of the machine, wherein the cash dispenser is operative to dispense cash to machine users,to cause card data read by the at least one card reader to be communicated from the machine to a first remote computer and to a second remote computer different from and not in operative connection with the first remote computer; and
(b) operating the at least one processor to cause the machine to carry out a cash dispensing transaction that includes operation of the cash dispenser responsive at least in part to at least one communication received by the machine from the second remote computer responsive at least in part to communication of the card data to the second remote computer in (a).

Abstract
An automated transaction machine can operate to carry out a financial transaction for a machine user responsive to communication with a financial transaction host computer. The machine includes a card reader that can read a user identifier from a magnetic stripe of a user card. The machine sends the read user identifier to a remote marketing computer. The marketing computer uses a user identifier to determine the next marketing presentation to be presented to a machine user corresponding to the user identifier. Responsive to a message received from the marketing computer, the machine operates to display the determined next marketing presentation to the machine user. A marketing campaign includes a sequence of presentations to be output in a predetermined order to a machine user. Machine communication with the remote marketing message computer is independent of machine communication with the transaction host computer.

7. A method comprising:
-
(a) operating at least one reader device of an automated transaction machine to acquire identifying data from a magnetic stripe of a data bearing record presented by a machine user during a financial transaction, wherein the machine is operative to communicate with a financial transaction computer that is remotely located from the machine, wherein the machine is operative to communicate with a determining computer that is remotely located from the machine and the financial transaction computer, wherein the machine is operative to conduct a financial transaction through communication with the financial transaction computer independent of communication with the determining computer; (b) operating the machine to cause a request message to be sent to the determining computer, wherein the request message includes identity data corresponding to the identifying data acquired in (a); (c) operating the determining computer to (ci) receive the request message sent in (b), (cii) determine a response message responsive at least in part to receiving the identity data, and (ciii) cause the response message to be sent to the machine; and (d) operating the machine to (di) receive the response message sent in (ciii), and (dii) cause at least one output corresponding to the response message received in (di), to be presented to the machine user through at least one output device that includes a display device, wherein (a)-(d) are carried out prior to conclusion of the financial transaction. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10, 11, 12)

13. A method comprising:
-
(a) operating a determining computer that is operative to communicate with each of a plurality of automated transaction machines remotely located from the determining computer, to receive identifying data sent from a first machine of the plurality of machines, wherein the identifying data corresponds to user data received from a first machine user attempting to carry out a financial transaction that involves communication of the first machine with a financial transaction host computer which is remotely located from the machines and the determining computer and is not in operative connection with the determining computer; (b) operating the determining computer to make a first machine-affecting determination based on the identifying data received in (a); and (c) operating the determining computer to cause determination data corresponding to the determination made in (b) to be sent to the first machine, wherein the determination data is operative to cause the first machine to output at least one message to the first machine user prior to the financial transaction being carried out. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21)
