- administering to an eye of a patient a pharmaceutical composition comprising a modified chitosan and a therapeutic agent selected from the group consisting of a prostaglandin and a prostamide, thereby treating the glaucoma, wherein the modified chitosan is a chitosan that is covalently modified with an alkyl sulfonic acid, and wherein the therapeutic agent is covalently bonded to sites on the covalently modified chitosan via a linker.
