1. A method of identifying a digital data stream having at least one of audio content or video content, comprising:
- receiving a first signature associated with a content consumption site, wherein the first signature comprises a concatenation of first digital information extracted from a first non-payload portion of the digital data stream and second digital information extracted from a second non-payload portion of the digital stream;
comparing the first signature to a second signature associated with a reference site; and
identifying the digital data stream based on the comparison of the first and second signatures.

Abstract
Signature-based program identification apparatus and methods for use with digital audio and/or video systems are disclosed. The disclosed systems and methods develop signatures of digital audio and/or video content from a digital data stream at two or more sites and compare the signatures to one another to identify the content.
