1. A method, comprising:
- collecting, from an optical transceiver coupled to a cable, data that includes one of laser information and optical power information;
receiving the data from the optical transceiver;
reading, with a RFID (radio frequency identification) reader embedded in the optical transceiver, data from a RFID device attached to an end of the cable; and
determining, with the data from the optical transceiver and the data from the RFID device, an operational status of the cable.

Abstract
Embodiments include methods, apparatus, and systems for cable monitoring. One embodiment includes a method that receives data from an optical transceiver coupled to a cable and a RFID (radio frequency identification) device mounted to the cable. The data from the optical transceiver and RFID device is used to determine an operational status of the cable.
