1. An analyte monitoring device, comprising:

  • a housing;

    an input unit coupled to the housing to provide one or more patient condition parameters, the input unit configured to initiate data communication from the analyte monitoring device to a remotely located sensor control unit operatively coupled to a transcutaneously positioned analyte sensor;

    a receiver unit coupled to the housing and configured to receive analyte sensor signals detected by the transcutaneously positioned analyte sensor, the receiver unit further configured to receive sensor parameter data that is related to the transcutaneously positioned analyte sensor, wherein the sensor parameter data is determined prior to transcutaneous positioning of the analyte sensor;

    a reading unit coupled to the housing and configured to generate a reading based upon the analyte sensor signals detected by the transcutaneously positioned analyte sensor and received from the sensor control unit, and the sensor parameter data that is related to the transcutaneously positioned analyte sensor and received from the sensor control unit;

    a processor coupled to the housing and configured to process one or more analyte related signals detected by the transcutaneously positioned analyte sensor and received from the remotely located sensor control unit and the sensor parameter data that is related to the transcutaneously positioned analyte sensor and received from the remotely located sensor control unit, the one or more analyte related signals modified by the processor based on the reading generated by the reading unit, the processor further configured to process the one or more patient condition parameters, wherein no calibration of the one or more analyte sensor signals detected by the transcutaneously positioned analyte sensor is performed after the analyte sensor is transcutaneously positioned; and

    a display unit coupled to the housing to display the processed one or more analyte related signals and the one or more patient condition parameters.
