1. A method of replacing a first liquid-infusing pump with a second liquid infusing pump, comprising:
- connecting a first IV set between a fluid source and a patient, the first IV set comprising first and second fluid connectors and a first fluid conduit with a first fluid-flow prevention mechanism disposed between the first and second fluid connectors, the first fluid connector being positioned downstream of a proximal end of the first IV set;
after connecting the first IV set between the fluid source and the patient, infusing liquid through the first fluid conduit;
after infusing liquid through the first fluid conduit, inhibiting fluid flow through the first fluid conduit;
after connecting the first IV set between the fluid source and the patient, connecting the first IV set to a second IV set comprising third and fourth fluid connectors and a second fluid conduit disposed between the third and fourth fluid connectors, wherein the first IV set is connected to the second IV set by connecting the first fluid connector to the third fluid connector and connecting the second fluid connector to the fourth fluid connector while preserving the connection of the first IV set between the fluid source and the patient; and
after connecting the first IV set to the second IV set, infusing liquid through the second fluid conduit.

Abstract
Liquid infusion apparatus includes non-magnetic materials in a pumping structure and drive motor therefor, and in a controller that supplies drive signals to the motor to facilitate convenient operation in intense magnetic fields without distorting the magnetic fields and without radiating objectionable radio-frequency interference. A non-MRI-compatible liquid infusion apparatus is temporarily replaced with MRI-compatible, non-magnetic liquid infusion apparatus without disconnecting patient from an installed intravenous infusion set to continue infusing liquid within the MRI environment.

12. A method of replacing a non-MRI-compatible liquid-infusing pump with an MRI-compatible liquid infusing pump, comprising:
-
connecting a first IV set between a fluid source and a subject, the first IV set comprising first and second fluid connectors and a first fluid conduit with a first fluid-flow prevention mechanism disposed between the first and second fluid connectors, the first fluid connector being positioned downstream of a proximal end of the first IV set; after connecting the first IV set between the fluid source and the subject, infusing liquid through the first fluid conduit; after infusing liquid through the first fluid conduit, inhibiting fluid flow through the first fluid conduit; after connecting the first IV set between the fluid source and the subject, connecting the first IV set to a second IV set comprising third and fourth fluid connectors and a second fluid conduit disposed between the third and fourth fluid connectors, wherein the first IV set is connected to the second IV set by connecting the first fluid connector to the third fluid connector and connecting the second fluid connector to the fourth fluid connector while preserving the connection of the first IV set between the fluid source and the subject such that the second fluid conduit provides a fluid flow path that parallels a fluid flow path of the first fluid conduit; and after connecting the first IV set to the second IV set, infusing liquid through the second fluid conduit such that the parallel fluid flow path of the second fluid conduit bypasses a portion of the fluid flow path of the first fluid conduit between the first and second fluid connectors without removing any portion of the first fluid conduit or disconnecting the first IV set from the fluid source or the subject. - View Dependent Claims (13, 14, 15)
