3. A solid-state light engine adapted to analyze a sample having one or more tags comprising:

at least one light pipe; a plurality of solid state light source; one or more dichroic mirrors; wherein at least one of the solid state light source drives the luminescence in the light pipe; and wherein the at least one light pipe, the plurality of solid state light sources, and the one or more dichroic mirrors are used to produce a single beam of excitation light having a plurality of colors;

14. A system adapted to analyze a sample having one or more tags comprising:

a light pipe and at least one solid state light source that drives luminescence in the light pipe; an additional one or more solid state light sources; a plurality of dichroic mirrors; wherein said light pipe and said at least one solid state light source, said additional one or more solid state light sources, and said plurality of dichroic mirrors are used to produce a single beam of excitation light having a plurality of colors, wherein the beam of excitation light is adapted to detect the one or more fluorescent tags within the sample; at least one filter that filters the beam of excitation light; and an optical delivery pipe that is adapted to direct the beam of excitation light from onto a sample. - View Dependent Claims (15)
