1. A method for determining a driving event, comprising:

  • initializing a driving event system associated with a vehicle to a current vehicle type/class profile, by selecting from a set of predetermined vehicle type/class profiles, wherein the vehicle type/class profile comprises spatial motion profile, wherein a spatial motion profile comprises spatial motion data predetermined to be characteristic of a particular vehicle type/class, wherein initializing the driving event system to the current vehicle type/class profile further comprises setting event detection motion thresholds for determining a driving event based on the spatial motion profile in the selected predetermined vehicle type/class profile;

    detecting vehicle spatial motion of the vehicle while the vehicle and driving event system is in operation;

    capturing driving event data at one or more event capture devices associated with said vehicle;

    comparing, using a processor, the detected vehicle spatial motion to the set of pre-determined vehicle type/class profiles while the vehicle and the driving event system is in operation;

    determining, based on said comparing, whether the current vehicle class/type profile should be changed to another vehicle type/class profile during real-time detection of vehicle spatial motion while the vehicle and the driving event system is in operation;

    determining a driving event based in part on detected vehicle spatial motion exceeding one or more event detection motion thresholds, wherein event detection motion thresholds are based in part on the vehicle type/class profile;

    storing captured driving event data, in the event a driving event is determined.
