Abstract

A system for detachment of correlated magnetic structures includes first and second correlated magnetic structure having complementary coded magnetic sources; and a tool that applies a bias magnet field to cause a transition of the first and second magnetic structures from a closed state in which the first and second magnetic structures are attached to an open state in which the first and second magnetic structures are detached.

Claims

1. A correlated magnetic system, comprising:

a first correlated magnetic structure including a first plurality of magnetic sources;

a second correlated magnetic structure including a second plurality of magnetic sources, said second plurality of magnetic sources being complementary to said first plurality of magnetic sources; and

a tool that applies a bias magnetic field to cause a transition of the first and second magnetic structures from a closed state in which the first and second magnetic structures are attached to an open state in which the first and second magnetic structures are detached.

2. The correlated magnetic system of claim 1, wherein the tool further applies another bias magnet field to cause a transition of the first and second magnetic structures from the open state to the closed state.

3. The correlated magnetic system of claim 1, wherein the tool includes one or more permanent magnets.

4. The correlated magnetic system of claim 1, wherein the tool includes one or more electromagnets.

5. The correlated magnetic system of claim 1, wherein the tool applies a coded bias field so that the tool will function only when in a desired orientation with the first and second magnetic structures.

6. The correlated magnetic system of claim 1, further comprising one or more movement constraining structures which constrain the movement of at least one of said first correlated magnetic structure or said second correlated magnetic structure.

7. The correlated magnetic system of claim 1, further comprising a spacer between said first correlated magnetic structure and said second correlated magnetic structure that prevents said first correlated magnetic structure from contacting said second correlated magnetic structure.

The correlated magnetic system of claim 1, wherein the first plurality of magnetic sources include first field emission sources and the second plurality of magnetic sources include second field emission sources, each of said first and second field emission sources having positions and polarities relating to a desired spatial force function that corresponds to a relative alignment of the first and second correlated magnetic structures within a field domain, said spatial force function being in accordance with a code, said code corresponding to a code modulo of the first field emission sources and a complementary code modulo of the second field emission sources.

The correlated magnetic system of claim 8, wherein the code defines a peak spatial force corresponding to a substantial alignment of the code modulo of the first field emission sources with the complementary code modulo of the second field emission sources, wherein the code also defines a plurality of off peak spatial forces corresponding to a plurality of different misalignments of the code modulo of the first field emission sources and the complementary code modulo of the second field emission sources, said plurality of off peak spatial forces having a largest off peak spatial force, said largest off peak spatial force being less than half of the peak spatial force.

10. The correlated magnetic system of claim 9, wherein said positions and said polarities of each of said field emission sources are determined in accordance with at least one correlation function.

11. The correlated magnetic system of claim 10, wherein said at least one correlation function is in accordance with the code.

12. The correlated magnetic system of claim 8, wherein said code is one of a pseudorandom code, a deterministic code, or a designed code.

13. The correlated magnetic system of claim 8, wherein said code is one of a one dimensional code, a two dimensional code, or a three dimensional code.

The correlated magnetic system of claim 13, wherein each of said field emission sources has a corresponding field emission amplitude and vector direction determined in accordance with the desired spatial force function, wherein a separation distance between the first and second magnetic field emission structures and relative alignment of the first and second correlated magnetic structures creates a spatial force in accordance with the desired spatial force function.

15. The correlated magnetic system of claim 14, wherein said spatial force include at least one of an attractive spatial force or a repellant spatial force.

The correlated magnetic system of claim 1, wherein said tool comprises an electromagnet having a U-shaped core, said U-shaped core including two side portions that extend upward and around the second magnetic structure, said first magnetic structure having a central portion that is the same size as the second magnetic structure and having two outer portions that overlap the two side portions of the U-shaped core.

17. The correlated magnetic system of claim 16, wherein said central region of said first magnetic structure comprises said first plurality of magnetic sources.

The correlated magnetic system of claim 16, wherein said two outer portions of said first magnetic structure are coded to maximize the repel force once said electromagnet is activated, which produces an electromagnetic field in the regions where the two side portions of said U-shaped core overlap said two outer portions of said first magnetic structure.

The correlated magnetic system of claim 16, wherein activation of said electromagnet causes said first magnetic structure and said second magnetic structure to separate by a distance where said first magnetic structure and said second magnetic structure will remain in said open state when said electromagnet is deactivated.

The correlated magnetic system of claim 16, wherein activation of said electromagnet causes said first magnetic structure and said second magnetic structure to separate by a distance where said first magnetic structure and said second magnetic structure will return to said closed state when said electromagnet is deactivated.
