1. A method for responding to a request including at least a target address and a unique identifier for a receiving device, comprising the steps of:
- receiving at an application server the request from a sending device;
sending a message with the application server to the receiving device, the message including a prompt for causing the receiving device to automatically send a response to the message and preventing the message from being directed to a messaging queue of a messaging application on the receiving device;
receiving the response to the message from the receiving device at the application server; and
transferring a set of location identifiers corresponding to the target address to the receiving device upon receipt of the response.

Abstract
A location-based messaging system and its methods of operation are disclosed, including methods for sending geographic location information for a target address from a computing device to a receiving device that will enable the receiving device to display a map and/or directions from a geographic location of the receiving device to the geographic location of the target address. Methods for processing and distributing location-based data, methods for receiving and responding to location-based data, and methods for virally distributing location-based applications are also disclosed.

15. A method for responding to a request from a sending device, comprising the steps of:
-
receiving at the application server the request created from at least the target address and a unique identifier for a receiving device; extracting the target address and the unique identifier from the request; sending a message to the receiving device based on the unique identifier with the application server, the message not including data associated with the target address and including an intercept prompt preventing the message from being processed by a message queue of a messaging application on the receiving device, and wherein the intercept prompt triggers the receiving device to send a response to the application server to receive data associated with the target address; receiving the response from the receiving device with the application server; and automatically transferring the data associated with the target address from the application server to the receiving device. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 36, 37)

24. A method for responding to a request containing a target address from a sending device at an application server to cause a set of geographic coordinates for the target address to be transferred to a receiving device, comprising the steps of:
-
receiving at the application server the request created from at least the target address and a unique identifier for the receiving device; creating a message from the request with the application server, the message including an intercept prompt preventing the message from being processed by a message queue of a messaging application on the receiving device, and wherein the interaction prompt triggers the receiving device to send a response to the request without user interaction; and sending the message to the receiving device based on the unique identifier. - View Dependent Claims (25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33)
