Respiratory masks with gusseted cushions
First Claim
1. A cushion for a respiratory mask assembly comprising a frame-connecting portion, a face-contacting portion, and a gusset portion disposed between and joining said frame-connecting and face-contacting portions, wherein the gusset portion includes at least one perimetrical region which includes a laterally projecting exterior gusset section, a connecting gusset section, and a laterally projecting interior gusset section, the exterior gusset section extending generally laterally outwardly from the frame-portion in a direction away from a mask interior and terminating at an exterior tip section, the connecting gusset section extending from the exterior tip section generally inwardly in a direction towards the mask interior and terminating at an interior tip section, and the interior gusset section extending generally laterally outwardly from the interior tip section in a direction away from the mask interior and terminating at a base of the face-contacting portion;
- wherein the base of the face-contacting portion does not extend laterally past the exterior tip section.

Abstract
Cushions for respiratory face masks have a frame-connecting portion, a face-contacting portion, and a gusset portion disposed between and joining the frame-connecting and face-contacting portions. The gusset portion preferably includes at least one perimetrical region which having a laterally projecting exterior gusset section and a laterally projecting interior gusset section. According to one aspect, the laterally projecting exterior and interior gusset sections are disposed about the entire perimeter to the gusset portion so as to establish a substantially constant widthwise dimension thereof about the gusset'"'"'s entire perimeter.
