1. A display comprising:

  • a) a substrate including a plurality of receptor locations, each of the plurality of receptor locations including a shape, size or surface characteristic; and

    b) a plurality of preassembled display elements located at said plurality of receptor locations, each of the plurality of preassembled display elements including at least one first sub-element attached to at least one second sub-element, the at least one first sub-element having a first shape, size or surface characteristic and including a first light-modulating element of a first wavelength band and the at least one second sub-element having a second shape, size or surface characteristic and including a second light-modulating element of a second wavelength band; and

wherein at each of said receptor locations, the shape, size or surface characteristic of said receptor location is complementary to a shape, size or surface characteristic of the preassembled display element located at said receptor location, the shape, size or surface characteristic of said preassembled display element at said receptor location defined by the combination of the first shape, size or surface characteristic of the at least one first sub-element of said preassembled display element and the second shape, size or surface characteristic of the at least one second sub-element of said preassembled display element; and

wherein the first wavelength band and the second wavelength band differ from one another.
