Abstract

A system for protecting, controlling, and monitoring substation devices of a power system, includes a spare protection and control unit that, when there is a failure in a protection and control unit from among protection and control units that perform a protection and control operation for the substation devices, downloads unit information including software and a device setting value of failed protection and control unit from a database unit and functions as an alternative unit for the failed protection and control unit.

Claims

1. A system for protecting, controlling, and monitoring substation devices of a power system, the system comprising:

a plurality of protection and control units that are connected to a first bus and a second bus and perform a protection and control operation for the substation devices;

a database unit that is connected to the second bus and stores therein unit information that includes software and a device setting value for each of the protection and control units;

a spare protection and control unit that is connected to the first bus and the second bus, and when there is a failure in a protection and control unit from among the protection and control units, downloads the unit information of failed protection and control unit from the database unit via the second bus and functions as an alternative unit for the failed protection and control unit; and

a backup protection unit that is connected to the first bus and the second bus and includes a backup protection function, wherein

the first bus is for transmitting digital data, which is converted from analog signals and device data from the substation devices, as serial data,

the second bus is for transmitting protection and control data of the substation devices as serial data, and

the backup protection unit enables the backup protection function for each of the protection and control units at least until the spare protection and control unit starts functioning as the alternative unit.

2. The system according to claim 1, wherein the backup protection unit enables the backup protection function for the protection and control units by a time division manner.

3. A system for protecting, controlling, and monitoring substation devices of a power system, the system comprising:

a plurality of protection and control units that are connected to a first bus and a second bus and perform a protection and control operation for the substation devices;

a database unit that is connected to the second bus and stores therein unit information that includes software and a device setting value for each of the protection and control units;

a spare protection and control unit that is connected to the first bus and the second bus, and when there is a failure in a protection and control unit from among the protection and control units, downloads the unit information of failed protection and control unit from the database unit via the second bus and functions as an alternative unit for the failed protection and control unit; and

a backup protection unit that is connected to the first bus and the second bus and performs a backup protection function, wherein

the first bus is for transmitting digital data, which is converted from analog signals and device data from the substation devices, as serial data,

the second bus is for transmitting protection and control data of the substation devices as serial data, and

when there is a failure in a protection and control unit from among the protection and control units, the backup protection unit enables the backup protection function for failed protection and control unit, and upon the spare protection and control unit starting functioning as the alternative unit for the failed protection and control unit, disables the backup protection function.
