1. A vehicle inertial navigation system comprising:

  • a first mechanism mounted on a vehicle for receiving from an external source a first set of acceleration measurements that do not include components of acceleration caused by the Earth'"'"'s gravitational field relative to a first orthogonal coordinate frame;

    a second mechanism mounted on the same vehicle for obtaining a second set of acceleration measurements that include components of acceleration caused by the Earth'"'"'s gravitational field relative to a second orthogonal coordinate frame, the origins of the first and second orthogonal frames not co-located; and

    a third mechanism for determining relative movement between the first coordinate frame and second coordinate frame upon movement of the vehicle using the first set of acceleration measurements and the second set of acceleration measurements.
