1. A device for selectively filtering objectionable content from a signal, including a video component and an audio component, comprising:

  • an extraction device receiving all or part of said signal and configured to extract information therefrom relating to objectionable content;

    a video control device and an audio control device;

    a processor operatively coupled to said video control device and said audio control device and communicatively coupled to said extraction device for receiving at least a portion of said extracted information therefrom; and

    a memory coupled to said processor and storing filtering criteria;

    said processor configured to cause said audio control device to filter a portion of the audio component in response to identifying audio content that satisfies said filtering criteria; and

    said processor configured to cause said video control device to filter a portion of the video component in response to identifying video content that satisfies said filtering criteria such that only portions of displayed video frames corresponding to the identified video content are obscured.
