1. A method of detecting blood in a region, comprising:

  • receiving light reflected from an irradiated region, including reflected light at a first wavelength and reflected light at a second wavelength;

    determining the intensity of the received reflected light at the first wavelength;

    determining the intensity of the received reflected light at the second wavelength;

    determining that blood is present in the region by subtracting the intensity of the received reflected light at the first wavelength from the intensity of the received reflected light at the second wavelength; and

    wherein the second wavelength is used as a baseline reflection intensity.
