1. A surgical tilt anvil assembly comprising:
- a rod having a longitudinal axis;
a head assembly including an anvil plate having staple deforming pockets and a flat planar surface, the head assembly being pivotally secured to the rod and the flat planar surface being pivotal in relation to the longitudinal axis of the rod between a first pre-fired tilted position, a perpendicular, non-tilted operative position and a second post-fired different tilted position, wherein the head assembly passes from the first tilted position, through the non-tilted position to the second tilted position on a side of the rod opposite of the first tilted position; and
a biasing member positioned to urge the head assembly in relation to the rod from the first tilted position towards the second tilted position.

Abstract
A surgical tilt anvil assembly including a rod and a head assembly including an anvil plate having staple deforming pockets. The head assembly is pivotally secured to the rod and pivotal in relation to the rod between a first tilted position, a non-tilted position and a second different tilted position. The head assembly passes from the first tilted position, through the non-tilted position to the second tilted position.

13. A surgical tilt anvil assembly comprising:
-
a rod having a longitudinal axis; and an anvil head assembly, with a flat planar surface, pivotally secured to the rod and the flat planar surface being pivotal in relation to the longitudinal axis of the rod in a first direction from a first pre-fired tilted position for insertion to a perpendicular operative position, and further pivotal in relation to the longitudinal axis of the rod in the first direction from the operative position to a second post-fired tilted position for removal, the anvil head including a backup plate which is movable from a first position to a second position, wherein the backup plate retains the anvil head in the operative position when the backup plate is in the first position. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17)
