1. An embolic protection device for filtering embolic material, debris or clots released during interventional procedures, comprising:

  • a variable thickness guidewire comprising a thinner segment bordered by thicker segments; and

    a filtering device movable between an expanded configuration and a collapsed configuration, for deploying beyond an area of blockage or clot in a cerebral arterial blood vessel, the filtering device comprising an expansion assembly, a filter membrane, and a mobile attachment point,wherein the filtering device is rotatably mounted on the variable thickness guidewire via the mobile attachment point, such that the filtering device may be rotationally and longitudinally displaced relative to and independently of the guidewire,wherein the filtering device allows ingress of blood and embolic material into the interior of the filter body.
