Abstract

A mobile station used in a mobile communication system which accepts location registrations from mobile stations in order to perform mobile station location management, the mobile station being comprising a detection means which detects that it is in an overlap region of hierarchical location registration areas; and a delay means which delays location registration when the detection has been made.

Claims

1. A wireless communication system having wireless base stations which belong to a hierarchical location registration area wherein the wireless communication system accepts location registrations from mobile stations in order to perform mobile station location management, the wireless communication system comprising:

a first wireless base station group which belongs to the hierarchical location registration area and an another hierarchical location registration area which overlaps the hierarchical location registration area and having a transmitting unit operable to transmit, to mobile stations, area information which indicates that the first wireless base station group belongs to an overlap region of both the hierarchical location registration area and the another hierarchical location registration area, and transmit a parameter which allows lengthening of selectable delay times by which the mobile station delays location registration in the another hierarchical location registration area which overlaps the hierarchical location registration area, wherein the time by which location registration is delayed by the mobile station is changed according to a size of the overlap of the hierarchical location registration areas; and

a second wireless base station group which belongs to the hierarchical location registration area and does not belong to the another hierarchical location registration area, and having a transmitting unit operable to transmit, to mobile stations, another area information which indicates that the second wireless base station group belongs to the hierarchical location registration area and does not belong to the another hierarchical location registration area,

wherein the first wireless base station group and the second wireless base station group are included in the wireless base stations.

The wireless communication system according to claim 1, wherein the mobile station performs processing to delay location registration in the another hierarchical location registration area on the basis of the parameter upon receiving the area information from the first wireless base station group.

A wireless base station used in a wireless communication system which accepts location registrations from mobile stations in order to perform mobile station location management and belongs to a first location registration area and a second location registration area, a part of the first location registration area overlapping with a part of the second location registration area and forming a hierarchical structure, the wireless base station comprising:

a transmitting unit which transmits, to mobile station, area information which indicates the wireless base station belongs to the first location registration area and the second location registration area, and end warning information which alerts that the mobile stations are approaching to a boundary wireless zone of the first location registration area so as to delay location registration in the second location registration area wherein the wireless base station forms a wireless zone which does not belong to the boundary wireless zone of the first location registration area, and the mobile station performs processing to delay location registration in the second location registration area which overlaps the first location area upon receiving the end warning information from the wireless base station, wherein the time by which location registration is delayed by the mobile station is changed according to a size of the overlap of the first and second location registration areas.

A wireless communication system having wireless base stations which belong to a hierarchical location registration area wherein the wireless communication system accepts location registrations from mobile station in order to perform mobile station location management, the wireless communication system comprising:

a first wireless base station group which belongs to the hierarchical location registration area and an another hierarchical location registration area which overlaps the hierarchical location registration area and having a transmitting unit operable to transmit, to mobile stations, area information which indicates that the first wireless base station group belongs to an overlap region of both the hierarchical location registration area and the another hierarchical location registration area; and

a second wireless base station group which belongs to the hierarchical location registration area and does not belong to the another hierarchical location registration area, and having a transmitting unit operable to transmit, to mobile stations, another area information which indicates that the second wireless base station group belongs to the hierarchical location registration area and does not belong to the another hierarchical location registration area,

wherein the first wireless base station group and the second wireless base station group are included in the wireless base stations, the mobile station performs processing to delay location registration in the another hierarchical location registration area on the basis of a parameter upon receiving the area information from the first wireless base station group, the parameter allowing lengthening of selectable delay times by which the mobile station delays location registration in the another hierarchical location registration area which overlaps the hierarchical location registration area, wherein the time by which location registration is delayed by the mobile station is changed according to a size of the overlap of the hierarchical location registration areas.

5. A mobile station used in a mobile communication system which accepts location registrations from mobile stations in order to perform mobile station location management, the mobile station comprising:

a detection unit which detects that the mobile station is in an overlap region of a first location registration area and second location registration area; and

a delay unit which delays location registration to update location registration area from the first location registration area to the second location registration area on the basis of a parameter stored in the mobile station upon detecting that the mobile station is in the overlap region, the parameter allowing lengthening of selectable delay times by which the mobile station delays location registration in the second location registration area which overlaps the first location area, wherein the time by which location registration is delayed by the mobile station is changed according to a size of the overlap of the first and second location registration areas.
