Abstract

A book product with a pair of cover boards attached to an outer liner in spaced-relation to define a spine, with a security device positioned on a laydown area on one of the cover boards, an inner liner attached in overlying relation to the one of the cover boards, with the inner liner, the security device, the one of the cover boards, and the outer liner laminated to sandwich the security device concealingly there between, and an interior body cooperatively supported within the book product.

Claims

1. A book product, comprising:

an outer liner;

a pair of rigid cover boards pre-cut to a selected size and each attached on a respective major surface to a major surface of the outer liner, the cover boards disposed in spaced-apart relation to define a spine for a book product while defining opposing front cover and back cover therefor;

at least one of the cover boards comprising;

a pair of opposing sheets having opposing planar surfaces with a length and width exceeding a thickness, a first one of the pair of opposing sheets defining in a selected portion a laydown area on one of the planar surfaces thereof;

a thin-film security device positioned on the laydown area, the security device having a thickness no greater than about a minority of the thickness of the sheet; and

the pair of opposing sheets laminated together to sandwich the thin-film security device concealingly therebetween, with the opposing sides of the one of the cover boards are substantially parallel without a surface indication of the presence of the thin-film security device therein, whereby the security device enclosed and laminated in said one of the cover boards is concealed from casual indication of its presence and is held after lamination safely and securely during normal use thereof for book purposes; and

an interior body cooperatively supported within the book product,

whereby the opposing rigid cover boards define the front cover and back cover that move together foldably along lines defined by opposing sides of the spine for book product.

2. The book product as recited in claim 1, wherein the outer liner defines a coded indicia that is displayed on a portion thereof in alignment with the laydown area of the one of the pair of sheets.

3. The book product as recited in claim 1, wherein the security device is a sheet that includes an electronic response device.

4. The book product as recited in claim 1, wherein the interior body is configured to receive a compact disc.

5. The book product as recited in claim 1, wherein the interior body comprises a plurality of pages bonded together along a side edge to define a book.

6. The book product as recited in 4 claim 1, wherein the interior body comprises a ring member for receiving sheets.

7. The book product as recited in claim 1, wherein the security device is an RFID device.

8. The book product as recited in claim 1, wherein the cover boards are chipboard.

9. The book product as recited in claim 1, wherein the cover boards are cardboard.

10. The book product as recited in claim 1, wherein the cover boards are fibreboard.

11. The book product as recited in claim 1, wherein the laydown area comprises a recess.

12. The book product as recited in claim 1, wherein the laydown area comprises a debossment.

13. The book product as recited in claim 1, further comprising an inner liner attached in overlying relation to an opposing planar surface of at least the one of the cover boards.

14. A book product, comprising:

an outer liner;

a pair of cover boards pre-cut to a selected size and having opposing planar surfaces with a length and width exceeding a thickness, each cover board attached on a respective one of the planar surfaces to a major surface of the outer liner and disposed in spaced-apart relation to define a spine gap for a book product while defining opposing front and back cover therefor;

at least one of the cover boards defining a laydown area in a selected portion of one of the opposing planar surfaces thereof; and

a thin-film security device positioned on the laydown area, the security device having a thickness no greater than about a minority of the thickness of the one of the cover boards; and

an inner liner attached in overlying relation to the respective second major surface of the one of the cover boards, and the inner liner, the security device, the one of the cover boards, and the outer liner laminated together to sandwich the thin-film security device concealingly there between, whereby the security device enclosed therein is concealed from casual indication of its presence and is held after lamination safely and securely therein during normal use thereof for book product purposes; and

an interior body cooperatively supported within the book product,

whereby the opposing cover boards define the front cover and back cover that move together foldably along lines defined by opposing sides of the spine for the book product.

15. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the outer liner defines a coded indicia that is displayed on a portion thereof in alignment with the laydown area of the one of the cover boards.

16. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the security device is a sheet that includes an electronic response device.

17. The book product as recited in claim 14, further comprising a spine member received in the spine.

18. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the interior body is configured to receive a compact disc.

19. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the interior body comprises a plurality of pages bonded together along a side edge to define a book.

20. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the interior body comprises a ring member for receiving sheets.

21. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the security device is an RFID device.

22. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the cover boards are chip board.

23. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the cover boards are cardboard.

24. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the cover boards are fibreboard.

25. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the laydown area comprises a recess.

26. The book product as recited in claim 14, wherein the laydown area comprises a debossment.

27. A book product, comprising:

an outer liner;

a pair of cover boards pre-cut to a selected size and having opposing major surfaces, each attached on a respective one of the major surfaces to a major surface of the outer liner, the cover boards disposed in spaced-apart relation to define a gap that receives a spine for a product while defining opposing front cover and back cover therefor;

at least one of the cover boards comprising a sheet having opposing planar surfaces with a length and width exceeding a thickness, and defining in a selected portion a laydown area; and

a thin-film security device positioned on the laydown area, the security device having a thickness no greater than about a minority of the thickness of the sheet; and

an inner liner attached in overlying relation to the respective second major surface of the one of the cover boards, and the inner liner, the security device, the one of the cover boards, and the outer liner laminated together to sandwich the thin-film security device concealingly there between, whereby the security device enclosed therein is concealed from casual indication of its presence and is held after lamination safely and securely therein during normal use thereof for book product purposes; and

an interior body having the spine cooperatively supported within the book product,

whereby the opposing cover boards define the front cover and back cover that move together foldably along lines defined by opposing sides of the spine for supporting and enclosing the interior body in the book product.

28. The book product as recited in claim 27, wherein the outer liner defines a coded indicia that is displayed on a portion thereof in alignment with the laydown area of the one of the cover boards.

29. The book product as recited in claim 27, wherein the security device is a sheet that includes an electronic response device.

30. The book product as recited in claim 27, further comprising an interior body configured to receive a compact disc.

31. The book product as recited in claim 27, wherein the interior body comprises a plurality of pages bonded together along a side edge to define a book.

32. The book product as recited in claim 27, wherein the interior body comprises a ring member for receiving sheets.

33. The book product as recited in claim 27, wherein the security device is an RFID device.

34. The book product as recited in claim 27, wherein the cover boards are chipboard.

35. The book product as recited in claim 27, wherein the cover boards are cardboard.
