1. A method in a retrofit gaming device having 1) a controller including a processor and a memory, and 2) a wireless interface, said retrofit gaming device retrofitted to an existing wager-based gaming machine having a video display, a game controller communicatively coupled to a value input device and a value output device wherein after a retrofit of the game controller, the retrofit of gaming device, the value input device and the value output device are disposed within an existing gaming machine cabinet, comprising:

  • receiving, by the processor via a first communication pathway added during the retrofit that is between the retrofit gaming device and the value input device or the value output device within the existing gaming machine cabinet, sensor information on at least a transaction by transaction basis from the value input device or the value output device wherein the value input device or the value output device each include one or more sensors;

    receiving, in the processor via a second communication pathway added during the retrofit that is between the retrofit gaming device and the game controller within the existing gaming machine cabinet, information associated with a play of a wager-based game from the game controller wherein the game controller is configured to control a play of a wager-based game played on the existing gaming machine and wherein functions of the retrofit gaming device including communicating with the value input device or the value output device via the first communication pathway or communicating with the game controller via the second communication pathway do not require modification to any existing game software executed by the game controller prior to the retrofit of the existing gaming machine;

    receiving, in the processor, image data from a camera wherein the camera is for capturing an image of a user'"'"'s face when the user is at the existing gaming machine;

    generating, in the processor, a transaction record including the image data received from the camera and the sensor information received from the value input device or the value output device in response to a value input or a value output transaction such that the image of the user'"'"'s face performing the transaction is captured;

    storing, by the processor, the transaction record including the image data and the sensor information associated with the transaction, to the memory;

    based upon the sensor information from one or more of the transactions, determining an error pattern indicating the value input device or the value output device is operating sub-optimally;

    sending, via the wireless interface on the retrofit gaming device one or more of

         1) the transaction record including the image data and sensor information associated with the transaction,

         2) the information associated with the play of the wager-based game or

         3) information associated with the error pattern to a remote device;

    displaying transaction data and the image data associated with a first transaction via a third communication pathway added during the retrofit between the retrofit gaming device and the video display; and

    wherein the retrofit gaming device is retrofitted to the value input device and the value output device and configured to receive information from the value input device via the first communication pathway and receive information from the value output device via a fourth communication pathway added during the retrofit that is between the retrofit gaming device and the value output device.
